Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C. Opens for Business in the World Trade Center to Offer High Quality, Personal, and Affordable Legal Services for Businesses of All Sizes in the Pacific Northwest

Portland, Or, August 9, 2009:   On August 1, 2009, Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C. opened its law offices in the World Trade Center to provide high quality, personalized, and affordable business transactional, corporate finance, real estate, international law, and estate planning legal services for business of all sizes in the Pacific Northwest.  The firm's mission is to give businesses and their owners the peace of mind that they have engaged an attorney who understands their business, knows the law, and cares about the success of their business.   In addition, the firm will provide specialized  legal services for small & emerging businesses as well as minority and women-owned businesses in Oregon.

Ken Mitchell-Phillips, Sr., the founder of Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C., is no newcomer to business or the law, he earned a Master of Science degree in Business Management in 1996 and has over 10 years of business experience including acting as an executive director of a local non-profit agency, working as a recruiting manager for a Fortune 500 company, and a general manager for World Savings & Loan.  In the legal field, he has worked for a large international law firm, a Fortune 500 company, and in federal and state governmental agencies.  Most of his experience is in business transactional work (e.g. entity formation, contracts, corporate governance, protecting assets and intellectual property, etc.), corporate finance (e.g. mergers & acquisitions, securities, corporate governance and compliance, equity and debt financing), real estate transactions (e.g. commercial and residential leasing, easements, and condo conversions), and small & emerging companies.

According to Ken, "When it comes to new businesses, they typically don't have a lot of money, but their need for legal services in the first few months is critical!  My job is to provide them with an affordable package of legal services that provides the type of protection commonly needed by companies in their start-up phase."  The firm offers qualified small and emerging businesses a unique “Start-Up Package” that includes entity structure and formation, protecting intellectual property, and drafting initial contractual agreements.  Companies signing up for the package will receive an additional 5 hours of free legal services during their first three months of operation.  The Small Business Package is designed to save new companies a considerable amount of money and give new owners the peace of mind that their business is adequately protected and getting started off on the right foot.

For established businesses, Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C. is able to provide fixed-fee legal services for those businesses in need of high-quality legal services at small firm rates.   According to Ken, "many established businesses tend to neglect corporate formalities and quality agreements when they first get started out not realizing that their failure to spend adequate time and attention to their legal contracts and corporate formalities could put their business at risk.”  As a result, Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C. offers a "Corporate Clean-Up" package designed to make sure companies have their corporate records and corporate agreements in order.  These services are in addition to the day-to-day legal issues that Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C. is capable of handling for businesses such as drafting and reviewing contracts, assisting companies with raising money through equity or debt financing, hiring or firing employees, and assisting with securities issues or liquidity events.

Mid-sized businesses, larger companies, and governmental entities that find themselves in a dilemma between needing outside counsel legal services but cannot quite afford the significant expense of a team of lawyers may also utilize the services of Mitchell-Phillips Law, P.C.   The firm has the ability to provide a virtual legal department and/or over-flow legal services to those business caught in this predicament.  As a minority-owned law firm seeking certification as a certified minority owned enterprise through the State of Oregon, the firm is uniquely positioned to provide complex, sophisticated, and high quality legal work in direct response to corporate America's demands for diversity in the legal profession.

In addition to practicing law, Ken Mitchell-Phillips serves as an Adjunct Business Law instructor at the Sylvania and Cascade Campuses of Portland Community College as well as an Adjunct Organizational Finance instructor at Concordia University.  He was recently selected to travel to China in July 2009 to gain insight into the business, political, and cultural climate of Oregon’s highest export market for the purpose of re-examining and revising his business law curriculum in light of lessons learned.  Ken also serves the community and legal profession as a trustee for the Oregon Ballet Theatre, a member of the Roosevelt Robinson Scholarship Committee, a member of the Standing Committee for Paralegal Education for the American Bar Association, a member of the National Bar and Multnomah County Bar Associations.  In 2007, he was a graduate of the Portland Business Alliance's "Leadership Portland" program, a member of the Northwest Business for the Culture and Arts Leadership program, and nominated for the Portland Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40.  He also is a past recipient of the Roosevelt Robinson Scholarship and the Davis Wright Tremaine LLP Diversity Scholarship.
